When Prince William was a student his fellow-undergraduates were warned they would be expelled if they spoke to the press, while respectful residents avoided approaching him in the street. But after a decade of minding its manners, and with two billion watching on television, it was time for "town and gown" to make the most of the connection with a royal wedding party. In the year of its th anniversary, St Andrews can now claim to be the only university that has educated a future king and queen. In the quad where the Earl of Strathearn as he is to be styled north of the border once took part in the annual foam fight that is part of local tradition, and in the shadow of St Salvator's dorm where the couple met, the students and townsfolk of St Andrews came together to sing, dance and toast the royal couple. The family event - oversubscribed four times - featured Highland dancing, bagpipes, belly dancing and The Other Guys, the student a cappella group that has become a worldwide sensation on YouTube with its affectionate wedding tribute - a parody of Lady Gaga's Bad Romance, restyled as Royal Romance. The City of David is highly controversial in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict ; it is located in the area of the West Bank that was annexed to Israel following the Six-Day War and Jerusalem Law. The international community regards Israeli settlements illegal under international law , although Israel disputes this. Archaeologically it is best known for its Canaanite infrastructure dated to the Middle Bronze Age, and its newer structures from the Iron Age, built by Judean kings. Organised as an Israeli national park, its management was taken over in by the Ir David Foundation. The area is known as the Arab neighborhood of Wadi Hilweh, part of the village of Silwan , and extends down from the southern city walls of Jerusalem's Old City. The saddle between the city walls and Wadi Hilweh is sometimes treated separately under the name "Ophel", although the exact location of the ancient Ophel is contested. The name "City of David" originates in the biblical narrative, where King David is described as the Israelite leader who conquers the fortified city of Jebus and renames it after himself.
